Merkblatt 820e: Guideline on the selection of stainless steels

The material properties corrosion resistance, strength, formability, weldability, thermal expansion and thermal conductivity of 83 stainless steels are compared in this publication. This is done in a clear form with the help of radar charts. All 83 material grades are subsequently classified in Figure 1 "Strength versus corrosion resistance", Figure 2 "Formability versus corrosion resistance" and Figure 3 "Strength versus formability".

New additions include explanations on material selection and durability according to Eurocode 3 (DIN EN 1993-1-4, Annex A). The procedure for material selection according to this standard applies to load-bearing structural members in civil engineering but is also suitable as a guide for stainless steels with regard to corrosion exposure
